Bug ID: 378515
Summary: Vertical text interfere with horizontal text
highlighter annotation tool
Product: okular
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: PDF backend
Assignee: okular-***@kde.org
Reporter: ***@gmail.com
Target Milestone: ---

Trying to annotate a sentence, but ended selecting the whole page.

If a pdf file I want to annotate has vertical text in the margins, it causes
problems: when I try to highlight horizontal text, the tool will try to
annotate the perpendicular vertical text too, making it hard to just annotate
wanted text. The vertical text zone will expand on the whole page. The same
thing happens when I try to select text. Also, the problem is only present on
odd pages if the document has alternative margins size. On the attached
screenshot I was trying to highlight the text "poststructuralisme et le
postmodernisme – qui se concentrent sur des aspects différents du genre et de
la sexualité informés par des conceptualisations du social ; elles ne partagent
donc pas une ontologie commune du social" but I ended with whole text on the
page being selected.

With okular 1.6.70 and the pdfs with vertical text I know, selecting by text or
by a rectangle work fine for me (doesn't select all page, tried in every page).
If you have any public PDF where it still selects the whole page, please reopen
the bug and attach it (if it is small enough) or add the url where to find it.

Best regards.
